Set in the fictional town of , the story follows Nancy Thompson and her friends who are stalked in their dreams by Freddy Krueger , a burned serial killer who uses a glove equipped with razor-sharp blades. The critical twist is that if Krueger kills you in your dreams, you die in real life. Nancy eventually discovers that Krueger is the spirit of a child murderer who was burned alive by the town's parents years earlier after he was released on a legal technicality.
