: While in Malta, Sam is contacted by his former colleague Anna "Grim" Grímsdóttir. She warns him of hitmen sent by Andriy Kobin, the man allegedly responsible for Sarah's death.

: To keep Sam cooperative, Grim reveals that Sarah is still alive . Her death was faked by Sam's late friend, Irving Lambert, to protect her from a mole within the agency who intended to use her as leverage against Sam . Kestrel is then shot by Kobin and left for dead

: After capturing Kobin, Sam is subdued by Third Echelon and taken to Price Airfield. Grim secretly releases him, revealing she is working undercover for President Patricia Caldwell to investigate corruption within Third Echelon's new director, Tom Reed.
