Elias opened the final image file in the folder. It was a pitch-black frame, but when he checked the properties, the GPS coordinates were burned into the header. They pointed to a peak no trail map recognized.

He looked out his window at the rising sun. January 2023 was over, but for the first time in years, Elias knew exactly where he was going.

Elias found the file in the deepest sub-directory of an old external hard drive. It sat nestled between blurred vacation photos and half-finished spreadsheets: StefB3_2023-01.zip .

The sound of a party exploded through his speakers—laughter, the clinking of glasses, and then Stefan’s voice, clear as a bell. "Resolution number one: Stop recording everything. Resolution number two: Ignore resolution number one."

But as the timestamps progressed toward the end of the month, the tone shifted. The ambient background noise of the city was replaced by a heavy, oppressive silence. Stefan stopped talking to the mic. Instead, the files captured the sound of wind howling through a pine forest and the scratching of a pen on paper.
