During a sweltering Springfield heatwave, the Simpson family purchases a backyard pool, transforming their home into the neighborhood hotspot. However, after breaking his leg in a reckless diving stunt, Bart is confined to his room for the summer and becomes obsessed with spying on his neighbors. Through his telescope, he observes Ned Flanders acting suspiciously and becomes convinced that his neighbor has murdered Maude. Bart recruits Lisa to investigate, leading to a tense climax where he believes she is in danger, only for the entire situation to be a misunderstanding about a dead houseplant and a trip to Bible camp. The episode concludes with Bart's cast being removed just as the summer ends and the pool is drained, leaving him to reflect on his isolated, yet dramatic, season.
