Teal'c is singled out due to his "mark of the devil" (his gold Apophis tattoo). He is subjected to "The Tests," including a trial by drowning. He survives by using his symbiote to enter a deep meditative state (Kelno'reem), which the villagers interpret as further proof of his demonic nature.
