Set in the fictional city of , the story begins when ancient demons, led by Diabolico and Queen Bansheera, are accidentally released from an underground tomb. To defend the city, a government agency called Lightspeed —headquartered in an underwater base known as the Lightspeed Aquabase —recruits five highly skilled civilians to become Power Rangers.
