The battle is a display of Leon's overwhelming power. Much of the early fight is summarized through a series of quick knockouts:

Diantha initiates to transform Gardevoir, and Leon responds by Gigantamaxing Charizard. Gardevoir manages to land a super-effective Thunderbolt, but Charizard endures the hit and retaliates with G-Max Wildfire. Using its Psychic powers, Gardevoir manages to redirect the flames back at Charizard, but Leon counters by using Max Airstream to push the attack away.
