1.17 - Fullbright
Search for the line that says gamma:1.0 (or gamma:0.0 ).
Change the value to something high, like gamma:100.0 or gamma:1000.0 . Fullbright 1.17
This is the quickest way to see in the dark without downloading external files. It works by pushing the game's internal brightness settings past their normal limits. Close Minecraft. Search for the line that says gamma:1

If you don't want to mess with text files, you can use a "Fullbright" texture pack. These are popular because they don't require Fabric or Forge to run.
