Reigen Arataka is a subversion of the "Wise Old Master" trope. He is a fraud, a coward, and a genius all at once. By the end of the first episode, it is clear that while he may not be a psychic, he is an expert on the human heart. His greatest "trick" isn't fooling his clients; it's convincing Mob—and the audience—that a man with no powers can still be a hero.
