Suddenly, the perspective shifted. The camera was now inside Room 14. It was pointed at a television set. On the TV screen, Elias saw a live feed of... himself.
The footage was grainy, shot on 16mm film. It showed a flickering neon sign in the shape of a crescent moon, buzzing with a low-frequency hum that made Elias’s teeth ache. The sign hung over a dilapidated motel in the middle of a salt flat. The camera panned slowly across the parking lot, where a single black sedan sat idling, its exhaust plumes ghost-like in the moonlight.
He was sitting at his desk, his back to the door, the blue light of his monitor illuminating his exhausted face.
He froze. He didn't turn around. He looked back at the terminal window and finally opened READ_ME_BEFORE_SLEEPING.txt .
Most of the time, he found corrupted family photos or broken flash games. But tonight, he found the file: Dark.Moon.Motel-DOGE.part1.rar .
The progress bar crept forward. 10%... 40%... 90%. When it finished, a single folder appeared. Inside was a video file and a text document titled READ_ME_BEFORE_SLEEPING.txt . He ignored the text and opened the video.
