The story follows , a young boy obsessed with writing scary stories who feels like an outsider because of his interests. After being lured into a magical apartment in New York City by an evil witch named Natacha , he is taken prisoner. To avoid being killed, Alex must tell her a new scary story every night—a situation reminiscent of One Thousand and One Nights .
