: "Build18" is derived from the ECE course prefix at Carnegie Mellon (18-XXX) and signifies the start of the spring semester.

Build18 is a week-long "intellectual playground" held every January by the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department. It was founded on the belief that student curriculum is often too structured, leaving little room for tinkering and creative invention.
