The story begins with demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren confiscating the possessed Annabelle doll and locking her safely behind sacred glass in their artifact room. However, a year later, while the Warrens are away on an overnight case, their daughter Judy, her babysitter Mary Ellen, and Mary Ellen’s friend Daniela face a night of terror. Daniela inadvertently releases Annabelle while attempting to contact her deceased father, causing the doll to awaken the other malevolent spirits in the room.
